Day One : Florence – birthplace of Da Vinci

Upon arrival in Florence, you’ll be whisked off on an exclusive private tour to uncover Leonardo’s inspiration and works. Starting at the Pitti Palace (once home to Lorenzo de Medici, who was Da Vinci’s patron for seven years), you’ll visit its Galleria Palatina and Museo degli Argenti, discovering traces of his work and getting a feel for life in 15th-century Florence. Afterwards, you’ll visit the Museo Stibbert (where works by Da Vinci dot a fascinating collection of paintings, ceramics, costumes and armour), and the Palazzo della Signoria, to try to uncover the mystery of his lost fresco, the Battle of Anghiari. Then wander the streets of Florence, between works by the artists who inspired Da Vinci’s Last Supper: Andrea del Castagno, Perugino and Domenico Ghirlandaio.

Day Two: Village life in Vinci

Let our private driver whisk you to the little Tuscan village of Vinci, where Leonardo was born in 1452. This stunning hilltop dollop has far-reaching views over the olive groves and rolling hills of the surrounding countryside. Spend the day here with your private guide, viewing Da Vinci’s machines, models and drawings at the Museo Leonardiano and his lovingly restored former home. Later, you’ll transfer to the sleepy village of Cerreto Guidi, to soak up the typically Tuscan atmosphere and pay a visit to Villa Medicea, a former Medici hunting lodge that was also the scene of a mysterious Medici murder.

Alongside your knowledgeable private guide, you’ll explore the very best of the gallery, wandering through rooms with paintings by Paolo Uccello, Piero della Francesca, Filippo Lippi and Botticelli, before seeing some of Da Vinci’s best-loved works in the dedicated hall. You’ll also learn more about Michelangelo and Raffaello and see how they injected their personalities into their pictures. Afterwards, walk Florence’s photogenic roads from the Ponte Vecchio to the Pitti Palace before taking in the beauty of the Boboli Gardens and the must-see city view from the San Miniato al Monte church.

Day Four : The vines of Chianti

After all that sightseeing, it’s time to explore the tranquil landscapes of Tuscany – and try some its famous wines. Take a guided stroll through the beautiful gardens of the Castle of Verrazzano, before repairing to its ancient cellars for a wine-tasting of its best vintages. You’ll have lunch here, made from the finest local ingredients, before heading onwards to the Wine Museum in Greve in Chianti (a popular stop-off on wine tours in the region). Taste a selection of the local vintages with an aperitif. Afterwards, you’ll be transferred back to the airport ready for your flight home.
