The Salzburg Festival is the world’s most important celebration of opera, music and theater. In 2020, it will mark its 100th birthday with 222 Operatic performances in 44 days at 15 different venues. Highlights will include, in addition to Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and “The Magic Flute”, Strauss’s “Electra” and Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov”, a number of successful productions from Mozart Week (“The Messiah”, 2020), the Easter Festival (“Tosca”, 2018 with Anna Netrebko in the role of Floria Tosca) and the Whitsun Festival (“Don Pasquale”, 2020 with Cecilia Bartoli in the lead role). For the first time, this program will span many of the top-quality musical events that make Salzburg a year-round festival destination. In addition, there will be 91 concert events with a thematic focus on Ludwig van Beethoven, who would have celebrated his 250th birthday in 2020. Ouverture Spirituelle, which has been scheduled during the opening week since 2012, will be entitled “Pax” – Peace – in 2020, clear reference to the original intention of the festival’s founders to host a project for peace.

Spend three nights in the beautiful Austrian city of Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart, during the buzz of the world famous Salzburg Festival. Divided by the Salzach river and topped by opulent palaces, baroque domes and ancient squares, Salzburg is among the world’s prettiest cities. A UNESCO heritage site since 1997, it’s particularly enchanting during summer, when the world’s most acclaimed musicians congregate in the city to put on operas and concerts in historical venues including Cathedral Square, St Peter’s Monastery and the Summer Riding School amongst others. This year promises to be extra-special: not only is it the 100 year anniversary of the festival, it’s also 250 years since the birth of Beethoven.
