We’ve devised this adventure to give you the highest chance of seeing the display, and added some other unforgettable activities too. Our highlight? Traversing the starlit forests by dog sled as you search out the Aurora Borealis in a magically empty landscape.

What makes this experience awesome:

  • Private holiday with personal guides and private transport included
  • Search out the Northern Lights on snowshoes
  • Unwind in the steaming outdoor pool of Aurora Spa
  • Horseback ride through starlit forest to see wild moose and the Aurora Borealis
  • Take a snowmobile through the frozen landscape
  • Dine at the best place in the world to see the Northern Lights

Get set for a four-night safari, completely focused on searching out the Northern Lights, giving you the best chance to see this unforgettable spectacle. You’ll spend your first day acquainting yourself with the landscape on a snowmobile, before relaxing in the region’s most stunning spa. Next, it’s time to seek out the Northern Lights on a snowshoe tour of the area’s magical forest. The following day, there’s the option to head out on a wild moose safari or don cross country skis to explore the environment further, before heading out for a trip highlight: a Northern Light safari by dog sled. Top off your adventure with a final night trip to the Aurora Sky Station, renowned as the world’s best place to see the Northern Lights. Here, after a four-course dinner, you’ll have plenty of time to savour nature’s best light show.

Break for coffee, cake and local delicacies by a cabin’s roaring fireside, before continuing your adventure. After your morning’s activity, there’s time to relax at the Aurora Spa, a stunning spa with a steaming outdoor pool set in the snow. Unwind in the aromatic sauna, exfoliate with fresh birch leaves or moisturise with pine-scented natural oils. After a relaxing afternoon, set off in search of the Northern Lights – wearing snowshoes. Immerse yourself in the environment as you track towards the best areas to view one of nature’s most amazing spectacles. Your guide will let you set the pace, meaning the trip is suitable for all levels of fitness.

Day Three: Moose-spotting and horse riding

Before another night spotting the Northern Lights, there’s the chance to choose between two optional excursions (see Extras tab for details). Nature lovers can traverse the landscape by minivan, hunting for wild moose along the Kalix River Valley on a safari that allows plenty of photo op stops and includes a splendid al fresco lunch. Alternatively, try your hand at cross-country skiing beside the Torne River. Embrace the silence and peace as you slide across the landscape, finishing with a ski through the forest towards lunch at a traditional Lappish cabin. (For related costs, see the Extras tab.) Later, you’ll set off on a once-in-a-lifetime search for the Northern Lights by dog sled. Heading off into the stillness of dusk, you’re enveloped by the silence of the forest as you traverse frozen lakes and swamps. Even if you don’t see the Aurora Borealis, this is an unforgettably magical experience.

After breakfast, you’ll transfer to the rail station to take the train to Abisko, passing frozen lakes and snowy mountains as you travel along the tracks. You’ll be picked up by a driver at the other end and transferred to your hotel in the village where you can relax for the afternoon. Tonight, you’ll be visiting the Aurora Sky Station, the best place in the world from which to see the Northern Lights. Located at the top of Mount Nuolja, 900 metres above sea level, it’s far from distracting noise and light. On this exclusive dinner trip, you’ll start with a chairlift ride up the mountain, allowing your eyes to adjust slowly to the darkness of the park. Follow your ride with a delicious four-course dinner, then learn more about the lights during a guided tour. Afterwards, there will be further free time to admire the lights by yourselves.
