At Myrdal, it’s time to change onto the famous Flam railway, known as one of the steepest tracks in the world. Day Seven: Dogsleds and Snowmobiles
Today involves two exciting activities at the heart of the landscape. After breakfast, head out with your private guide on a dog sledding ride (two people per sled). Led by the region’s leading provider, you’ll soak up views of the surrounding mountains on an hour-long exploration, as well as meeting the company’s crew of more than 300 dogs and their puppies. Enjoy a hearty traditional meal of reindeer meat, broth and vegetables afterwards to warm yourselves up (vegetarian options are available), before returning to your hotel to relax and gear up for your second excursion of the day: snowmobiling in search of the Northern lights. You’ll be given warm layers and shoes for this adventure, driving 30km through the wilderness (drivers must be aged 18 or over with a drivers license). Over the course of two hours, you’ll zip through the landscape, admire the view over an ice-covered lake, and perhaps even try ice fishing (if weather conditions permit). Finish up with a memorable supper prepared in a traditional Sami tent.

Day Eight: Evening Excursion!
Take some time to relax after yesterday’s hectic activities: today is free until the evening. The city of Tromso is great for independent exploration, with a cable car, polar museum and striking mid-century architecture (including the aquarium Polaria and Arctic Cathedral). Head back to the hotel by nightfall, in time to embark on an evening search for the Aurora Borealis with an experienced guide. We’ve chosen our minibus tour to seek out the incredible natural phenomena because the guides have decades of experience and knowledge of weather conditions and wind speed, making them ideally best placed to find the Lights. They’ll also provide snacks and hot drinks in the warm van to ensure you stay comfortable throughout. Don’t forget your camera: your guide can help you get the best images of your unforgettable night.
