Summary

Brazil

The days immediately after Carnaval are the best time to visit Rio. Still carrying on the party atmosphere, but at a significantly more chilled pace, the city has a welcoming, festive vibe that you’ll see at the famous Winners’ Parade or at last of its street parties. Couple your city explorations with some relaxation on the blissful peninsula of Buzios, where a string of perfect beaches, romantic restaurants and chic boutiques make for the ultimate getaway.

What makes this experience awesome:

  • Private holiday  with personal guides and private transport included
  • Take the cogwheel train up Corcovado, to stand beneath Christ the Redeemer
  • Soar above Sugar Loaf with a scenic helicopter ride over Rio
  • Watch Rio’s samba schools put on a spectacular Winner’s Parade
  • Tour the best street parties with your knowledgeable private guide
  • Escape to the idyllic beaches of laid-back Buzios

This six-night itinerary combines Rio’s heady post-Carnaval atmosphere with some of Brazil’s most beautiful beaches. Spend the first three days in Rio, where you’ll see Carnaval’s winning samba school put on an epic display in the Winners’ Parade and visit the city’s best street parties escorted by your own private guide. Then it’s time to relax, as your personal driver whisks you off to Buzios, for two nights by its blissful beaches and chic restaurants and shops.

Rio Pano

Buzios

First settled by European pirates, Buzios is a fishing village turned upscale beach resort. It's a magical place where rustic charm meets high-end sophistication. Narrow cobblestone streets littered with upscale boutiques and restaurants run alongside picturesque beaches. This beautiful jutting peninsula has 17 beaches, making it the perfect place to relax, unwind and absorb the calm, easy Brazilian way of life.

Day Two: Scenic flights and big nights

Today you’ll see two of Rio’s most iconic sights: Corcovado and Sugar Loaf. Starting with the former, you’ll drive past the city’s famous beaches towards national park, ready to board the cogwheel train that climbs up Corcovado Mountain to the famous Christ The Redeemer statue. Disembark to walk the final flight of stairs towards the statue, for breathtaking views of forest segueing to glittering water. After breaking for lunch (your guide can help with recommendations), it’s on to the next part of your adventure and a afternoon cablecar ride up Sugar Loaf. Stop at 170 metres to appreciate the view of Botafogo Bay with a Caipirinha in hand, then it’s time to board a helicopter for a scenic flight over the mountain. Pass over the famous beaches of Praia Vermelha, Copacabana and Ipanema for birds’ eye views of the Cidade Maravilhosa. Afterwards, continue your cablecar trip up the mountain, returning to your hotel around 5pm.

Day Three: Parade prep

Spend the day exploring at leisure. This evening brings another tour highlight – The Winners’ Parade at Carnaval, which marks the culmination of the festivities. At 8pm, you’ll be driven to the Sambadrome – a specially-built area where six samba schools will join the parade until 3 or 4am, with throngs of people (up to 5,000 per school) and floats which soar up to 15 metres. Soak up the music, views and electric atmosphere with a seat on the bleachers, alongside thousands of locals. Or, we can tailor-make this part of your trip, adding the chance to join a samba school for the night and take part in the parade yourself, or booking seats in ringside boxes (seating six) from which to see the parade. Alternatively, splash out on a luxury, air-conditioned suite for dinner and waiter service as you watch. For related costs, please see the Extras tab.

Day Four: Dancing in the street

After a much-needed lie-in, it’s time to start the party again as you tour the very last street parades of Carnaval season with your private guide. This is one of our favourite times to explore Rio, as the intense hecticness of Carnaval is over but a party spirit remains. Over the course of four hours, you’ll see the best blocos (neighbourhood street bands) rousing the crowds with a heady mix of music and dance.
