Summary

Brazil

More relaxed and significantly cheaper than Carnaval in full flow, Rio’s Winners’ Parade marks the end of the city’s world famous festivities. We think it makes a fantastic intro to the globe’s biggest party (especially for those short on time), as the crowds are smaller and the parties more accessible. For our four-night trip, we’ve secured tickets to Winners’ Parade, which lasts until the early hours in the electric atmosphere of the Sambadrome, as well as organising a tour of the city’s best street parties with your own private guide, a helicopter trip over Rio’s iconic sights, and much more.

AWESOME ELEMENTS INCLUDED ON TOUR PRICE:

  • Take the cogwheel train up Corcovado, to stand beneath Christ the Redeemer
  • Soar above Sugar Loaf with a scenic helicopter ride over Rio
  • Watch Rio’s samba schools put on a spectacular Winner’s Parade
  • Tour the best street parties with your knowledgeable private guide

Acquaint yourself with Rio by discovering its iconic sites on your first day in Brazil: climb to Christ the Redeemer and soar above Sugar Loaf mountain by helicopter. The following two days are devoted to the celebrations that mark the end of Carnaval: first, the Winner’s Parade (which starts at 9pm and continues until around 4am), then a tour of Rio’s best street parties with a knowledgeable private guide.

Day Two: Scenic flights and big nights

Today you’ll see two of Rio’s most iconic sights: Corcovado and Sugar Loaf. Starting with the former, you’ll drive past the city’s famous beaches towards national park, ready to board the cogwheel train that climbs up Corcovado Mountain to the famous Christ The Redeemer statue. Disembark to walk the final flight of stairs towards the statue, for breathtaking views of forest segueing to glittering water. After breaking for lunch (your guide can help with recommendations), it’s on to the next part of your adventure; an afternoon cablecar ride up Sugar Loaf. Stop at 170m to appreciate the view of Botafogo Bay with a Caipirinha in hand, then it’s time to board a helicopter for a scenic flight over the mountain. Pass over the famous beaches of Praia Vermelha, Copacabana and Ipanema for birds eye views of the Cidade Maravilhosa. Afterwards, continue your cablecar trip up the mountain, returning to your hotel around 5pm.

Day Three: Parade prep

Spend the day at leisure: this evening brings another tour highlight – The Winners’ Parade, which marks the culmination of the Carnaval festivities and sees one Samba School crowned as the best of 2019. At 8pm, you’ll be driven to the Sambadrome – a specially-built area where six samba schools will join the parade, with throngs of people (up to 5,000 per school) and floats which soar up to 15 metres. Soak up the music, views and electric atmosphere with a seat on the bleachers, alongside thousands of locals.

Day Four: Dancing in the street

After a much-needed lie-in, it’s time to start the party again as you tour the very last street parades of Carnaval season with your private guide. This is one of our favourite times to explore Rio, as the intense hecticness of Carnaval is over but a party spirit remains. Over the course of four hours, you’ll see the best blocos (neighbourhood street bands) rousing the crowds with a heady mix of music and dance.
