Day Two: City of Culture
Immerse yourself in Fes’ fascinating workshops as you visit its best artisans and craftsmen with your private guide. See the exquisite craftsmanship of a wood turner in his joinery, learn the art of hand-painting babouche slippers with the talented Fassi, and find out more about the traditional, intricate tiling technique of Fes Le Zellige. Meet bakers and chandelier-makers, and help out at a tea ceremony in a private house. Then explore the fondouks in the medina, their vast courtyards bordered on the ground floor with workshops, stables for donkeys, horses and bedrooms for merchants. During the course of this day of discovery, you also have the rare chance to meet Mr Ouazzani at his brocade workshop. Called the ‘Last Master of Brocade’, he has worked as a skilled craftsman for 55 years, even providing garments for Yves Saint Laurent. His beautiful kaftans take at least a week to produce.

Day Three: Towards the desert
Leave Fes early, on a stunning drive to the Middle Atlas, where the mountains reach above 2,000 metres and dramatic rock formations emerge from dense cedar forest. On the way, you’ll pass the ski resort of Ilfrane, which looks almost surreally alpine, before stopping for lunch in the little mountain town of Midelt where your guide can help you with restaurant recommendations. After lunch, you’ll transfer to a 4X4 to drive through the incredible landscapes of the Sahara desert at Merzouga, ready to spend the night in the authentic Aladdin Desert Camp. There, as part of your Saharan experience, you can bask in the sunset on a camel-backed promenade.

Day Four: Movie-worthy scenery
After breakfast, you’ll visit the soaring river canyons of the Todra Gorge, where you’ll have free time to explore. Next, take a quick visit to the dream-like town of Boulmalne Dades, which perches at the edge of a desert plateau. From here, you’ll make for Ouarzazate, the dusty desert town famous for its starring role in TV and movies including Game of Thrones, Gladiator and The Living Daylights. You’ll round up your day amongst the earthen buildings of Ait Benhaddou, where people still live in pre-Saharan dwellings which rise mystically out of the Saharan mountains. Overnight nearby.

Day Five: Onwards to Marrakech
After breakfast, you’ll leave Ait Benhaddou on an epic drive to Marrakech through the Atlas Mountains. Cross the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, the highest in Morocco as you take in empty mountain scenery from on high, and arrive in the city for lunch. Then it’s time to explore with your private guide, taking in its must-do sights including the Majorelle Garden, Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace and Secret Garden. Let your guide take you on a stroll off-the-tourist trail, as you see lesser-visited parks of the labyrinthine souks. End you time in Morocco with a very special dinner: take a traditional horse and carriage through the alleys of the medina to Dar Marjana, set in an authentic riad at the heart of old Marrakech.
