Waltz at a Viennese Ball with Cultural ViennaAustria

From £665 per person for 3 nights (based on 2 adults sharing)*
Austria’s Viennese Balls are world-famous, steeped in tradition and packed with glitz, glamour – and plenty of dancing. Vienna puts on 450 balls each year, but we’ve arranged tickets to 2019's best ones, ensuring a whirl of a time.

Perfect for:

Unique Annual Events
Summary

Austria

Pack your dancing shoes and prepare to waltz the night away at one of Vienna’s most prestigious balls. You’ll be put through your paces by the city’s top dancing school to prepare you for this unforgettable experience, and you’ll also have plenty of time to explore the handsome Hapsburg streets of the Austrian capital.

What makes this experience awesome:

  • Entrance to one of Austria’s most exciting balls: the Juristen Ball in March or the Concordia Ball in June
  • A two-hour dance lesson with the city’s leading dance school
  • Time to explore one of Europe’s most underrated cities, elegant but buzzy and cosmopolitan Vienna

We’ve secured hard-to-acquire tickets to 2019's most exciting Viennese balls. Steeped in tradition, these events may have a long history but they’ve morphed into multi-generational, spectacular affairs that go on well into the early hours. The Juritsen ball takes place in Vienna’s majestic Hofburg Palace, while the Concordia Ball takes place in the beautiful surroundings of the Rathaus, as part of the lively Vienna Festival – five weeks of music, theatre and dance. If you’re nervous about the idea of strutting your stuff on this prestigious stage, or you simply need to brush up on your waltz, then don’t worry, as your trip includes a two-hour dance lesson at the illustrious Elmayer Dance School. An experienced teacher will be on hand to help you hone your technique and prepare you for your chosen ball.

You’ll also have free time to explore Vienna, a city steeped in imperial grandeur. The Habsburg emperors left their capital with a rich legacy of magnificent architecture, from the sprawling Hofburg Palace complex to the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, one of the world’s most impressive collections of European art. The foodie scene here is an increasing part of the city’s appeal, with a host of innovative restaurants pushing Austrian cuisine in exciting new directions, and Vienna’s famous coffee houses are something of an institution.

Itinerary

Austria

We’re offering a three night package centered around one of Vienna’s most atmospheric balls:

Juristen Ball, 2/3/2019

Held in Vienna’s impressive Hofburg Palace, this ball takes place in the imperial palace’s spectacular state rooms with their soaring vaulted ceilings and beautiful decor. You’re in for a treat: the prestigious and highly regarded Elmayer Dance School will open the ball with a fabulous routine and it’s then over to you to put your dance steps into practice and waltz the night away.

Concordia Ball, 8/6/2018

Staged annually by the Press Club Concordia for more than 120 years, this ball takes place in the grand surrounds of Rathaus, with its beautifully lit courtyard and soaring vaulted ceilings. It’s known for its glitz and glamour: expect entrancing dance and music spectacles, beautiful decorations, elegant costumes and – this year – a tango theme.

The highlight of both events is the Viennese Waltz – for which you’ll be well prepared.

Our trips include a two-hour dance class at the highly regarded Elmayer Dance School, the city’s most prestigious place to hone your steps. Run by the Elmayer Family for generations, it leads the waltz at many of Vienna’s balls. During a two-hour lesson in an air-conditioned studio, you’ll learn the moves and hone your technique with an experienced teacher.

Your trip includes plenty of free time to get acquainted with Vienna, one of the most photogenic capitals in the world. Take in the grand, wedding-cake architecture of the Ringstrasse, but make time for the other side of the city too: In summer, parts of the Danube become wild swimming baths, with little cafes and kiosks at their sides, while there are also numerous parks and green spaces which you can hire bikes to explore. Don’t miss the cityscape from atop the Wiener Reisenrad, the antique Ferris Wheel that’s become a city landmark, as well as a buzzy food scene and some seriously relaxing spas to ease weary, post-dance limbs – hammams are big business here.

We recommend spending time at three of Vienna’s must-sees: The Kunsthistorischen Museum, housed in a palatial building on the grand Ringstrasse and home to an impressive collection of Old Masters and ancient artefacts; the Hofburg Palace, once seat of the Habsburg Emperors with a museum dedicated to national heroine, Empress Sisi; and the ultra-modern Leopold Museum, packed with works by Schiele, Klimt and Kokoschka.
