Chile

Shaped like a ribbon and stretching over 4,300 km along South America’s western coast, Chile is a country of vast and beautiful extremes. To the north lie the otherworldly lunar-like landscapes of the planet’s driest desert – the sweeping Atacama – and to the south the dramatic vistas of Patagonia and the Torres Del Paine National Park. Home to glaciers galore, rugged ice-capped mountains, vivid blue lakes and plenty of epic scenery, Patagonia is a walker and nature lover’s paradise. Jaw-dropping landscapes aren’t the only things Chile has to offer. With its lush vineyards, world-famous wine, colourful coastal cities and a vibrant, multicultural and sophisticated capital, the country is a fabulous destination for those wanting a taste of South America.

Peru

Brimming with ancient Inca heritage and a fascinating history and culture that date back for centuries, a mysterious air surrounds Peru. No trip to the country (or even South America) is complete without a visit to Machu Picchu, the most well-known archaeological site in on the continent and one of the new Wonders of the World. Its story was hidden from the Spanish for centuries and continues to intrigue and fascinate all that follow its famous Inca Trail. Add tropical Amazonian rainforests, the magnificent Andes, the highest navigable lake in the world, delicious gastronomy and warm and welcoming people, and you can see why Peru is a must-visit country.

Mexico

One of the seven cradles of civilisation, Mexico has a long and rich cultural history that’s still alive today. Explore its Mesoamerican Mayan and Aztec past and Spanish colonial influences alongside an array of wildlife-viewing opportunities in one of the world’s most biodiverse spots. Get in on one of the world’s most exciting festivals at Día de Los Muertos, the colourful Day of the Dead. Or see two world-famous migrations - the spectacular monarch butterfly and whale shark migrations – on spectacular wildlife trips.

Brazil

Think Brazil and you think of Rio de Janeiro’s carnival, non-stop sunny positivity and multicultural party atmosphere. Visit the famous Copacabana beach and view the thriving metropolis from up high at Christ the Redeemer. But make time to get outside the city too: beyond, in this vast country, you’ll find the rugged south-eastern landscapes surrounding Iguazu Falls, one of the world’s most immense waterfalls, and the incredible Amazon rainforest which blankets Northern Brazil.

Argentina

The birthplace of tango, Argentina is a country alive with a steamy mix of Latin and European heritage. Buenos Aires is a contrast of faded colonial history and smart, colourful modernity. Beyond the city, visit fertile pampas where gaucho culture reigns supreme. As you would expect in a country on such a vast scale, Argentina’s natural sites don’t disappoint. In the north, find the immense Iguazu Falls, and in the west, see 13,000 year-old cave paintings.
