Marrakech’s other side

On my first trip to Marrakech, between wandering the gardens of the Majorelle and navigating the hectic Djemma el Fna, I discovered another side of the city – a glamorous dose of evening glitz that’s not well publicised. It may be best known for snake charmers and slippers, but this city’s evenings out are up there with Tel Aviv or Istanbul, taking place on leafy terraces or in fairylight strewn bars and Michelin-starred restaurants.

Our Immersive Morocco trip is perfect for combining the city’s other side with the empty landscape of the Sahara where you can regroup and recover! For glitz overload, you can’t beat Crystal, the grand indoor/outdoor restaurant attached to Pacha.

Run by a pair of Michelin-starred French chefs, it mixes excellent menus with live music, twinkling lights and a very dressed-up crowd. Less glitzy and more hip, subterranean cocktail bar Barometre sits in the trendy area of Gueliz and vends intricate cocktails from a cosy room stuffed with apothecary jars (there’s also a delicate food menu). Alternatively, if you really want to rock the kasbah, medina rooftop restaurant Nomad is the place to be, with a chic yellow and black colour scheme, trad dishes on the menu, and incredible views over the city.
